SHOWING UP FOR YOURSELF & FUTURE GENERATIONS

Making the ripples of change starts from the inside.

Optimism is hopefulness for the future – something that can begin with each of us.

We have the power to create the ripples of change, as we advocate for a new narrative that better supports our future generations. In fact, 80% of women believe we should have more resources and support to ensure our children learn how to incorporate optimism into their lives – now [1]. Yet, we need to examine how our own beliefs and behaviors are influencing the outlook of our children’s future.

As a parent or adult figure modeling for the next generation, it starts with you – it’s all of us, together.

3 POWERFUL WAYS
to Advocate For Yourself & the Next Generation

Here are a few ways to start creating a shift toward a more hopeful and optimistic future.

01

Prioritizing Our Mental Health & Well-being.

The importance of exemplifying the values, boundaries, and self-respect we wish to instill in our children cannot be overstated. As children observe and absorb behaviors, it is crucial for parental figures to lead by example. In fact, 63% of women say mental health and wellbeing were never modeled by their family, with 59% saying they either do not feel supported or feel supported by only certain family members when speaking about their mental health [2]. By looking forward with hope and prioritizing our own needs, we can teach our children to do the same,

02

Creating a Safe Spaces To be Heard Without Judgment.

Whether it’s between parent and child or peer-to-peer, the significance of fostering an open communication channel is key as we look forward. 53% of women indicated they are willing to open up and ask for support when they engage with people who make them feel safe [2]. Open dialogue, active listening exercises, collaborative decision-making, and personal boundary exercises are a few practical ways to help cultivate a home environment where every family member feels respected, understood, and valued.

03

Building Foundations of Trust.

The sooner we can build foundations of trust with each other, the sooner we can create meaningful and sustainable change. 44% of women say that sharing their experiences with someone they trust is the top contributor of better mental health [2]. When it comes to enhancing the relationship bond between parent and child – being consistent, keeping promises, validating feelings, and encouraging independent thought are just a few practical steps that can nurture trust in this special relationship. Trust holds a transformative power that, when harnessed, can help us do good – for future generations and for all.
